DIN 30670 Coated Steel Pipe Specification

In this paragraph, we introduce the coating standard DIN 30670. What is the scope? Which using areas? What is the producing process like?

Firstly, Scope of Steel Pipe Specification DIN 30670

This standard specifies DIN 30670 requirements for polyethylene coatings . And shows methods of testing extruded and fused polyethylene coatings. It applied at the works to DIN2448 or DIN2458 steel pipes that will be in contact with soil or water. It intended to use for quality assurance purposes.

When supplied with normal type coatings (N). Pipes in compliance with this standard are suitable for temperatures of up to 50℃. And with special type coatings (S), for temperatures up to 70℃. For the purposes of this standard, the term ‘steel pipe’ includes fittings.

Secondly, DIN 30670 Refers to Polyethylene Coating Pipes and Fittings — Requirements and Tests

This standard stipulates the requirements for the 3LPE coatings used by the factory. And it is as well as the single-layer or multi-layer sintered PE coatings for corrosion prevention of pipes and fittings. The coating is suitable for protecting steel pipes at the design temperature of -40 to C +80 to C.

Thirdly, Steel Pipe Specification DIN 30670 Corrosion Protection

Implementing Corrosion Protection can increase the design life. It can lower the pile specification because thickness’s losses minimized. When it improves aesthetics and lower the maintenance period once installed. we offer 4 main corrosion protection methods that are an option to our customers.

This standard specifies the coating requirements:
  • 1. For seamless steel tubes and fittings;
  • 2. For pipeline construction;
  • 3. For longitudinal or DSAW pipes
  • 4. Or for transporting liquids or gases.

Application of this standard ensures that PE coatings provide adequate protection against mechanical, thermal and chemical loads during operation, transportation, storage, and installation.

DIN EN ISO 21809-1 specifies the international standard requirements for the three-tier extruded polyethylene and polypropylene-based coatings for oil and gas pipeline transportation systems.

Moreover, Steel pipe Specification DIN 30670 Application Areas

DIN EN ISO 21809-1 does not include the following application areas:

  • Firstly, For transporting and distributing water and waste water. (All polyethylene-based coatings for pipes and accessories.)
  • Secondly, For gas and liquid medium distribution pipes. (All polyethylene-based coatings for steel pipes and accessories.)
  • Thirdly, For transport pipes and distribution pipes. (Single-layer and muti-layer burning for pipes and fittings.)

In conclusion, the standard DIN 30670 for polyethylene coating applies to the above application areas. However, two layers of polyethylene-based coatings have standardized in Europe. It describes in the DIN EN 10288 standard released in December 2003.

The material should chosen by the coating machine itself. According to the installation and coating procedures, various materials can use to meet the smallest requirements for the finished coating specified in this standard. The buyer should agree to any deviation from material use.

The surface should cleaned by sand blasting. Jet cleaning and any necessary follow-up work should not lead to the reduction of smallest wall thickness. Which specified in the standard of steel pipe technology delivery. The remaining debris should removed before the coating.
